Rules & Regulations


  1. Head cook or designate must register with Navy League and receive a receipt for admission fee from Navy League Phuket, prior to competition.

  2. Head cook or designate will draw their judging cup and sign for receipt at Registration, Head Cooks Meeting or as determined by Cook-off Chief. Remove the numbered ticket from the cup, write your name on the back and put it in a safe place. Winners will be announced by number and it must be presented to claim the award.

  3. Cooks must not "mark" the cup in any way. If cup is damaged, a replacement can be obtained by turning in your damaged cup and numbered ticked to the Cook-off Chief.

  4. Cooks must be 18 years old or older.


  1. Chili must be cooked on site the day of the Cook-off from scratch. "Scratch" means starting with raw meat and using regular spices. Commercial chili powder is permissible, but commercial chili mixes are NOT permitted.

  2. Chili must be prepared within the space provided by the Navy League in as sanitary a manner as possible.

  3. No pasta, rice, or other similar items allowed. BEANS ARE Allowed

  4. The head cook must prepare the chili to be judged.


  1. No more than one judging sample can be taken from any one pot.

  2. Each cook may turn in only one cup of chili for judging.

  3. At turn-in time, fill your cup ¾ full and take it to the Cook-off Headquarters. Do not be late.

  4. Your chili will be judged on appearance, aroma, taste, and aftertaste.

  5. No chili may be served or sold until after the judging.


  1. You and your team may dress in any costume (no nudity) and decorate your cooking site in any way you wish. You will be judged on the appearance and appeal of your team and your cooking site.


  1. After the completion of judging, you may sell your chili to the public attending the event. Your selling price shall be for coupons valued at 100 Baht per bowl. Bowls will be supplied by the Navy League. All sales shall be via coupon issued by the Navy League. No cash sales allowed.

  2. Purchasers of your chili can receive a "Chile Cook-off Favorite" token from the coupon sales booth when they purchase a chili coupon. They may place it in your "token jar" if they vote for you as their favorite. The team with the highest number of "Favorite Tokens" will receive the People's Choice Award.

  3. At the end of the day, or when you have run out of chili for sale, you can turn in your coupons at the coupon sales desk. You will receive 60 Baht for each 100 Baht coupon turned in.

F. Contestant Registration

  1. Cost of registration is 1,000 Baht, payable at the Phuket Directory office at 9/1 Prachanukhro Road, Patong (just around the corner from Rat-U-Thit Road on the way to Karon , view map), or call 081.487.4812 for pick up. You must be registered before the event.

  2. Registration will be closed after 12 entrants have registered.

G. Materials Provided

  1. A space of 2 x 3 meters under a tent

  2. Table & 2 chairs

  3. Bowls & spoons

H. What You Bring

  1. All ingredients for your chili

  2. You must prepare at least 4 liters of chili

  3. Cooking burner & Gas

  4. Cooking pot & utensils

  5. Signage (your chili must have a name)


  1. The entrance gate will be open at 7:00 AM

  2. Look up the Chili Cook-off Chief when you arrive

  3. Parking space will be provided close to your tent

  4. Minimum preparation/cooking time is 4 hours

  5. Judging will take place at 1:30 PM

  6. You can leave anytime after 4:00 PM

  7. Fill out the Registration Form and submit
